Moving

How to streamline your move with removals and storage services?

A move to a new home is the most stressful experience of one’s life. The amount of things to organize and think about can quickly become overwhelming. The whole process takes a lot of time and effort, from packing up your belongings to transporting them safely to unpacking them in your new house. This is where removals and storage services all the difference. Hiring professional movers takes so much of the strain out of relocating. Not only will they do all the heavy lifting for you, but they streamline the entire process, making your move as smooth and hassle-free as possible.

Plan ahead

The earlier you book your removal and storage Company the better. Many firms get booked up months in advance, so don’t leave it to the last minute. Planning also gives you more time to DE clutter and organize your belongings before packing. Know exactly what you want to take with you and what be sold, donated, or recycled.

DE clutter

Moving house is the perfect opportunity for a clear out. Be ruthless. Anything you haven’t used in over a year should go unless it has true sentimental value. Fewer possessions mean less to pack, transport, and unpack. Consider using self-storage to keep items you live without for a while but don’t want to part with yet. Use color-coded labels to mark up boxes by room and contents. It will make unpacking so much easier. Keep all the boxes for one room together on the truck. Pack a ‘first-day box’ with items you will need right away at your new place like toiletries, kettle, mugs, tea, and coffee.

Pack efficiently

Invest in quality packing materials. Use smaller boxes for heavy items like books. Wrap fragile items individually and label ‘fragile’ on the outside. Fill any unused space in boxes with packing material. Tape boxes up securely. Clearly label each box on at least two sides. Don’t put any valuables like jewelry, passports, or money into the removal truck. Take these with you when you travel to your new property. Also, transport any house plants you as even a short time bumping around in a van damages them.

Clean before you leave

Leaving your old home neat is always appreciated by the new occupants. Make sure to clean the oven, empty cupboards, wipe surfaces, etc. Disconnect and defrost the fridge/freezer. Don’t forget to clear out the loft, shed, and garage too. Leave appliance manuals and any warranties for the new owners.

Check inventory

When the removals firm arrives to collect your belongings, make sure to check their collection matches with your list. Highlight any missing or damaged items before they leave. It protects you from any disputes later on.

Be There For Delivery

If possible, you should be present when your possessions are delivered to the new property. Make sure all boxes are accounted for by ticking them off your inventory. Check for any damage and note it down while the removal team is still there. Once the van has been disassembled, take photos for additional evidence if needed.
